At home decluttering? Where to donate it all.

At home decluttering? Where to donate it all.

I’ve been thinking about what I can share with you this week that is uniquely organizing-related. You’re buried in COVID-19 updates, so I’ll leave that to the experts. What I do know is decluttering, so I’ll stay in my wheelhouse!

All of us are spending a lot of time at home these days. You’re certainly faced with a lot of stresses today, some of which you can control and others that you can’t. One thing you can control is the clutter that you suddenly can’t escape.

I’ve finally cleaned up my master list of donation resources! I refer to it often, but it’s never been presentable before this week. Most of the list is just for local Metro DC charities and resources, but there are some nationwide services that are highlighted. Note that this is a live document. Each time you click on it, you’ll see the latest version.

Some notables on the list:

  • In addition to household furnishings, A Wider Circle in Silver Spring takes mattresses, stuffed animals, and men’s suits! (The first two can be very hard to unload responsibly.)

  • Clean Cut Shredding in Rockville accepts an unlimited amount of shredding for FREE.

  • Silver Spring Creative Reuse is a place where I’ve made many drop-offs. She accepts office supplies, art supplies, containers, fabric and more for teachers.

Armed with this list, my hope is that purging while quarantined will be easier and you can get ahead of the curve when these places open again. You’ll now be able to set aside anything from electronics, books, furniture, and more, with a plan. Be ready to make those pick-up calls and drop-offs as soon as this passes, and, this too shall pass.

Do you have a favorite nationwide or local DC charity that should be on my master donations list? Please share in the comments, or just reply to this email. Have you been organizing more thanks to the Covid-19 quarantine? Please share in the comments.
