How it all clicked for one client

It continually amazes me how the simplest advice is sometimes the most transformative.  Neither my client nor I always know the power of a certain suggestion or insight as it comes out during as session. It’s only in retrospect and in practice that we can pinpoint the gems.  I used to offer virtual sessions.  Recently a former virtual client reached out and shared:

"You helped me on a 45 minute call and it all clicked for me in my home office simply because you helped me come up with the categories of “lives in this room” and “lives somewhere else."

I do remember saying this, but it was a relatively unremarkable moment, and probably one of many ideas I had during that call.  I love that she was able to transform her office from this simple division between her things.

The room under the microscope was a home office/guest room.  One of the first observations I made was that there were many things in there that belonged elsewhere.  This is a classic example of something that people don’t see until they bring in a friend or an organizer.  Her homework was to place “lives somewhere else” items at the office door, and the rest fell into place!

Do you think making a “lives somewhere else” pile could be as transformative for you?  What is another simple line in the sand that you can draw between dissimilar items in your home or office?  What category of items is in your office now that should leave?  Please share in the comments!
