My Quarantine Bathroom Renovation (Before & Afters!)

I can't believe it's been nearly a year since we redid the bathroom and I'm only now posting the photos! We started this renovation on 3/11/21. You might recall that that was THE week Covid came crashing down on all of us. The night before demo Nic pretty much demanded that I call it off, but I didn't, and we're BOTH happy we went forward with it.... You can see from the photos that it was time, pandemic be damned. I was my own designer, losing sleep over every inch and every tile.

Those 3 weeks were touch 'n go, with it being our *only* bathroom. Plans to shower at the gym fell apart and we were so anxiety-ridden over staying with my mom while we had no toilet. With so much uncertainty around how contractors would work, we expected that the whole project could be shut-down at any point, toilet or no toilet. All is well that ends well though. I've lived here for 14 years and this room makes me so happy every time I'm in it.

Some things we did right:

  • Paid a little extra for heated floors.

  • Installed a 3" ledge in the shower for shaving and Nic's Dr. Bronner's.

  • Went all out with a natural soapstone for ledge and vanity top.

  • Decided against a shower door. Water splashes out a little, but it's ok.

  • No shower floor ledge - we just raised the floor up by about 2". This kept a clean, open look in a small space.
