Queer Eye has done it again. Transformations that make me cry every time.
Just because my sentimentality about objects has eroded over the years doesn’t mean there’s not a soft spot. I just tend to reserve it for things with a heartbeat. Be it a filing system or a life, I live for a good transformation. I leapt out of my seat last week when I learned that the makeover show Queer Eye was airing on Netflix after a 12 year hiatus. Just a few months ago I was still watching reruns.
With a new cast, they pick up where the last Fab Five left off. Five gay male lifestyle experts use their powers of fashion, grooming, and social skills to makeover straight guys who have really let themselves go. Hiding under too much hair, bad taste, and low self esteem. A few scrubs, shopping sprees, coats of paint, and truly genuine pep talks later, their confidence emerges. About two thirds into each episode as they express gratitude for their new lease on life, my tears well up because I’m reminded yet again that people can change. Just search for “Queer Eye” on Netflix to watch.
