What Your Wallet & Bag Reveal About Your Office
Once I was sitting in an auditorium for a workshop when a man sat down next to me with a briefcase that was overflowing with paper. The stash was so worn, tattered and compact that he couldn’t zip the bag. I knew there was more where this portable pile came from. We got to talking and I could not wait for him to ask me what I do. When he does, he says, “You should see my office! I have so many piles it’s hard to walk, but I can find everything I need.” No, he never become a client because the “I can find everything I need” type is rarely looking for someone to meddle…
Since then, I’ve taken to peeking at wallets and bags wherever I go.
At another workshop, I met a woman with a wallet full of tattered receipts, tickets, wadded cash, and who-knows-what-else. She, unlike the gentleman with The Bag exclaimed that she couldn’t wait to hire me. We started the following week.
Take a look at your wallet. Is it exactly as chaotic as your office? Is it a portable pile? If so, use it as a litmus test. Start by organizing this very small project, and work your way up to the larger ones. It will have a ripple effect, or at least bring a little peace in the grocery line.
How long do you think it will take you to organize your wallet? Is your wallet indicative of the state of your office? Is one much more organized than the other? Share your comments below!
