Behold, the power of the word “Done”
2016 was apparently a good year for insights on productivity. Fast Company’s 2016 article Why Saying This Four-Letter Word Can Transform Your Productivity continues to be a favorite of mine. Let’s face it: productivity (and the feared lack thereof) evokes an emotional response. Did you know that there’s one word that has an instant and positive effect on not just our productivity but our physiology? That is the power of the word “done." Indeed, “done” is better than “perfect.” According to Leslie Sherlin, a psychologist, and neuroperformance specialist:
“When we’re concentrated on a task, the brain’s electrical activity is heightened. But the moment we say we’re done with something, the electrical activity in our brain shifts from being activated and engaged into a more relaxed state. ‘That relaxed state looks very similar to meditators or individuals who practice mindfulness techniques,’ [Sherlin] says.”
