How to catalog your books (and maybe let go of a few in the process)

In the age of simple, graphically manicured websites, librarything.com stands out as a relic from decade’s past.  I don’t discriminate though; as long as a product or site works, it’s pretty enough for me.  I suggested this book cataloging site to a client who was resistant to let go of books for many reasons, but the main one being that she didn’t want to lose track of the books she had, and interests thereof.  As we began entering her books, she began to feel less attachment to the physical book.  Library Thing saves the book cover, synopsis, reader notes, member reviews, popularity ratings, and more.

Oftentimes we resist letting go because we risk forever losing access to its memory or meaning. Library Thing is a great way to preserve elements a book for either quick access to your catalog, or possibly to release the book and clear shelf space.

Sounds familiar? Yes, it is very similar to Good Reads!  I don’t have firsthand experience with Good Reads, so I suggest researching the pros and cons of each.
