Will you wear something at least 30 times?

I recently worked with a client who, over the course of just two sessions, got rid of at least 10 trash bags of clothes (45 pairs of shoes were only a sliver of it!). Jobs like that put ME in the mood to tear through my own closet. My version of this purge (see picture) was donating about 15 items. I stare at my closet all the time to see if there’s one more thing that can go and rarely there is. The Mood had descended though and I seized it. For the first time, I pulled out everything that I simply did not wear for whatever reason - that part was pretty black and white. Then, the decisions came.

Strangely enough, Sunday evening when I was about done, I came across this article in the Guardian that suggested that before buying something, we ask ourselves wether or not we think we’ll wear it at least 30 times. I was pleased that most of my donations were items that were in suboptimal condition because I had worn them way more than 30 times. They may have fit like a million bucks or had been expensive, but I wasn’t wearing them. I too am guilty of buying things I don’t wear, but only three things fell into that category. This was the deepest cut I’ve made in my own closet, but also the most satisfying.
