How to get it all out of your head (and onto the wall)!

When a client feels utterly overwhelmed by all they have to do, they're usually holding too much in their heads. Their days are full of "Oh sh*t! I also have to ____!" moments. When I walk into this, I love to help them to literally see all they have to do. Instead of it overwhelming them even more, they are always relieved to get it all out in the open.

We did just this this week! A client and I had installed her new @feltrightproducts tiles over  month ago. When at 8am on Tuesday when she started spinning with everything she needed to do to get on top of her life, I knew exactly how to use them.

We talked through 5 areas that needed attention (see spiral pad):

  • Selfcare - pink

  • Home organizing & improvement - blue

  • Career - green

  • Personal - orange

  • Divorce

Heavens! We didn't want to look at divorce tasks all day (who would?), so we chose to leave that category off the wall. šŸ™‚ We replaced it with a strip of administrative tasks at the top in yellow.

As soon as the first few stickies went up, we were cheering! When she stood back at the end and looked at it all, she said, "Iā€™m so fucking psyched. Iā€™m not crazy. I DO have a lot to do!"

Sometimes it's progress enough just to get honest about all we have on our plates. This is a powerful goal, even if you haven't crossed anything off your list!
